I don’t want more women in the web industry

This is probably not the kind of entry I wanted to do as my first real post on this site since the redesign. Oh well, it’s done now! Yes that is a purposefully controversial title. If you’ll read on you’ll see that I don’t quite mean what you may think I mean when I say that I don’t want more women in the web industry.

While procrastinating on Twitter this evening and catching up with all the day’s news, instead of working on my backlog of Daily Design work, I was led to an article on Noupe titled “Women in Web Design and Development”.

2010 New Year Resolutions

I’ve read a lot of articles over the past few weeks (which I now can’t find and didn’t bookmark and history is really not helping) that have rubbished the idea of the New Year Resolution, saying that you should just strive to be a better person, change your lifestyle, change your outlook… I’m going to conveniently ignore the fact that it all amounts to the same thing and concede that perhaps they have a point. If we take a look back on last year’s post on the same topic we’ll see an amazing 0% success rate. Design Something Every Day – Day 1

One of my new resolutions for 2010 (more info on those coming soon) is to try to kick some life into my creativity by joining in with the Design Something Every Day idea. I first read about the idea earlier in December on Smashing Magazine and decided it was a great way to both get the creative juices flowing and incentivise me to keep this blog alive. I’ve said before that I intended to get back into it, but every time I’ve let the blog slip into nothingness – evident by the fact that my last post before this was in June!

Soon to change though! Design Something Every Day means that I should have something to post on here everyday, which will keep the focus on the blog and keep me posting about other things too. Wins all round I think.

My something for January 1st? This brand new blog design! It’s been underway for months on and off (mostly off), and is now (mostly) finally ready to be launched. It’s not quite all there, as will be made quite clear if you’re clicking around at all right now, but it’s nearly no longer January 1st anymore and I don’t want to start making excuses so soon.

So here we are, enjoy!

Why I’m Not Voting Today

It’s Thursday 4th June. I know that there are elections going on today, but up until this afternoon I just thought it was for electing our MEPs. But it also turns out there’s local council elections taking place too. I probably should have figured that out from the leaflets I’ve had through my door, but… well whatever.

Because My Caps Lock Key Is Loud

On 13th May 2009 Kanye West wrote a pretty badass blog post detailing his annoyance at people that weren’t the real genius Kanye using Kanye’s name. His final message in the blog post? BECAUSE MY CAPS LOCK KEY IS LOUD!!!!!

That sounds like prime Internets Meme material to me, and in an attempt to improve the internet exponentially and to make myself semi internet famous I’ve tried kicking off the meme in the best way possible. FLASH BUTTONS SOUNDS!

Because my caps lock key is loud, bitches.
