A look back on 2008

It’s now been 2009 for over a week and I’m finally writing my recount of 2008, after a month of “Ooh, must write that blog post” thoughts. Yes, I’m pretty good at putting things off. That will no doubt be reflected in my ramblings below.

Anyways, 2008 was a pretty friggin’ awesome year for me. Some exciting things happened in my personal life (exciting to me anyway…) and in my professional life. Live is looking good right about now! Details for why to be found after the jump…

Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection – An Installation Nightmare

Along with everyone else in the web world I have been eagerly anticipating the release of the new Creative Suite from Adobe. Since Adobe aquired Macromedia not so long ago I’ve been interested to see what would happen to the Macromedia Studio products I had come to know and love. Would Fireworks have gone all Photoshopey? I’d spent a short period of time playing with the Fireworks 9 beta, but hadn’t really gotten into it, so didn’t have much of an idea of what had changed. But who cares. New software means I’m getting it.

I am slave for shiney new things. I can’t help it, it’s in my geeky veins. That’s just how I roll.

Master Collection: Check.
PC: Check.
Time to kill: Check.

In my world that means it’s time to install some software. Adobe disagrees.

Pi Approximation Day – A celebration of π

Pi Approximation Day (one of the many throughout the year) is upon us, finally. Sunday, the 22nd July. Write it down guys! Being both a geeky guy and a cool guy, I will be celebrating with the dudes, accompanied by all manner of pie based paraphernalia. Such as pies. I suggest that you do the same.

For those not in the know, Pi Approximation Day is arguably one of the awesomest unofficial mathematics based holidays celebrated around the world. Back in the olden days when people couldn’t count very well, 22 divided by 7 was used as an approximation (although a pretty rubs one) of pi. And this coming Sunday marks the 22nd day of the 7th month. It’s complicated stuff guys, I know.

For a history of Pi Approximation Day, let’s take a visit to the Pi Day Wikipedia Article

The first Pi Day celebration was held at the Exploratorium in 1988, with staff and public marching around one of its circular spaces, and then consuming fruit pies; the museum has since added pizza pies to its Pi Day menu. The founder of Pi Day, the “Prince of Pi”, is Larry Shaw, now retired from the Exploratorium, but still helping out with the celebrations.

Larry Shaw is a hero. He also sports a wicked awesome beard. Recognise. For more cool Pi Day based information check out that Wikipedia article. Then go and buy pies. And then go and celebrate Pi Approximation Day. Good times will follow.

Girls in short skirts!

Yeah I thought that would get your attention. This post is much less centred around porn than one would hope, but the title does not lie. There are girls in short skirts involved. And they all like balls. So I’ve heard.

My friend and work colleague has (finally!) finished and uploaded her site detailing the travels and exploits of her and her gang of netballers. There was probably nakedness, soap, and showers involved somewhere. It’s what I’d do if I were a netball playing woman. You guys (whoever reads this…so no one) should check it out. Linky text, I choose you – Wadhurst Netball Club – GO!

Interesting point worth noting: I’m hosting it! I’ve been promised that there’ll be link to me, either here or to BaseTwo, I’ve not decided yet, but I guess that’s gonna come later. It will happen won’t it, Amy?

There’s also pictures of girls in dress up. Fuckin’ A.

The Future of Comedy is Here… Nearly

7 months since my last blog post is pretty shameful to say the least. But today marks the resurrection of Binary Loves You Too! For today I have important news.

Around three years ago my good buddy Sam and I had an idea. We had a vision. We’d looked into the abyss, given it the finger, and come out wiser men. Around three years ago my good buddy Sam and I drew some comics! And we entitled them Always Funny. The future of comedy was born in the form of a fledgling soon-to-be web comic.

But then life took hold, everyone got distracted by girls with boobs, and Always Funny (Comics – www.alwaysfunny.com was taken!) got pushed to the side to be taken up again at a later date. Well that later date is here! www.alwaysfunnycomics.com is here! Almost. It’s just a rubbish holding page for now, but over the next few months we’re gonna get that site built! And it’s going to be better than we had ever imagined. Comics, stories, videos, merch and other popular Internet based nouns will run riot!

Watch this space. You’ll thank me.

(www.alwaysfunnycomics.co.uk is also registered, but who cares about co.uk addresses, right?)
